 Media Kit

Get your message into the hands of the media with a well-designed media kit

There is a plethora of opinions about what should or should not be in a media kit. The fact is, there are a few items that, by common sense, should be included, but after that, it's up to you. Know who you plan to provide the kit to and tailor it accordingly. You might consider having several versions for different media outlets. In all cases, consider having a copy of the kit on your website for easy download.

The (Common Sense) Essentials

Since you want yourself and your book or books to be the center of attention, the kit should always contain:

  • your biography (author centered)
  • list of published books. If it's a short list, include a brief summary, publisher, and ISBN. Optionally, include cover images of each or a featured title
  •   If you are a first time author, include a write-up on your book including the title, publisher, ISBN, a summary, the cover image, and reviews.
  • contact information. Include your information or the information for your publicist, publisher, or the whoever is authorized to be interviewed on your behalf
  • a high-resolution photo, usually a headshot
  • press release (most current)
  • notable press (interviews, reviews, endorsements (from celebrities, newspapers, or other authors)
  • calendar (a list of appearances including book signings, speaking engagements, readings, interviews (radio or television)

For most, these items are considered optional; but some, especially fiction writers, would never omit these items:

  • suggested interview questions
  • an article or press release relevant to the theme or subject of the book
  • discussion questions for book clubs or reading groups
  • previous awards or nominations
  • excerpt or sample chapter
  • sales information: target audience, number of past sales, sales figures

So what do we do for you? We take your information and format it, package it, and return to you a kit that demands to be opened and read. One hard-copy and a digital copy that you can update and reproduce as needed.
